I've created this research blog for a couple of reasons.
Firstly, but not foremost in my mind, is that this will help me keep track of my research over the next three years. I'm getting through notebooks at a frightening rate and having this as a dated record will come in handy I'm sure.
More importantly though, is the fact that activism is inherently social as well as political. Movements are nothing without the people who make them, the ideas they do or do not share, and the collective action they take. I think that any research into such movements, especially ones that took place in living memory, can only benefit from being conducted in an open forum.
I hope this blog will function as such a forum. I'll post about my findings and hope people will engage with them. I welcome comments, thoughts and memories. The blog is called the Birmingham Activism Project because, for the Anti-Poll Tax Campaign at least, I aim to use Birmingham as a case study, however memories and photos of related activism elsewhere in Britain are extremely welcome too.
